European Measuring Instruments Directive (MID): Getting recognition
The regulations apply to Landis+Gyr’s active electrical energy meter, heat and gas meters, as well as the production sites at Zug, Corinth and Nuremberg amongst others.
Recognised bodies
The development comes after the successful completion of the module D audit at the production plants in Zug, Switzerland, and Corinth, Greece. The audit at these two plants was carried out by the regulatory body Metas, based in Switzerland, and assessed quality assurance for production and calibration.
Previous activity
At the end of 2006, the NMI in the Netherlands gave the go-ahead for module B of the digital meters, and afterwards the PTB in Germany gave the Ferraris meter the go-ahead for module B. PTB also assessed modules B, D and H1 of Landis+Gyr heat meters.
What it means
Compliance with MID means that Landis+Gyr is now able to offer meters in its product portfolio according to requirements such as the international standards like IEC 62052 and IEC 62053; regulations at the national level; and the MID and European standards EN50470-1/-2/-3.
MID background
The European Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) came into effect in October 2006 across the EU. The directive contains new regulations for several types of measuring instruments which will be placed on the European market.
